Ingredients

  • 400g minced beef
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 20g breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Palestinian za'atar
  • 1 egg
  • 200ml tomato and basil sauce
  • Toasted bread, to serve

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the minced beef, salt, pepper, paprika, breadcrumbs, olive oil, za'atar, and egg. Mix well until evenly combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs.
  3. Heat a little olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Fry the meatballs for around 10 minutes, turning every 2–3 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  5. Reduce the heat and pour in the tomato and basil sauce.
  6. Simmer gently for 2–3 minutes, allowing the meatballs to absorb the flavours of the sauce.
  7. Serve warm with toasted bread, rice, couscous, or your favourite side dish.
